I spent some time with Debal Deb, a scientist turned farmer. He's on a mission to help farmers become independent from big corporations and GM crops by giving them free seeds. Debal is cultivating 920 rice varieties on just 2.5 acres, where he worked with the indigenous people last year managing to drive out the giant mining company Vedanta.

India has been riddled with tragedy over the past 20 years with nearly 300,000 farmers committing suicide.  60,000 of these deaths have taken place in the state of Maharashtra, India’s ‘cotton-belt.’ Locals point the finger at the global seed corporation, Monsanto. We need to raise awareness about the impact of corporate power in global agriculture.
